Projects and Enclosures
The Duck Pond
As we began to expand at The Pond Digger Ranch we started to get calls for some unexpected animals. In 2020, we received gaggles of geese and broods of ducks. Since ducks and geese mature quickly we did not plan to have a dedicated enclosure. Some of the ducks that came in were actually abandoned pets, that could not be released to the wild. Once we realized we would home some of these feathery friends for life, we began to build an enclosed pond to keep them safe. As of November 12, 2022 we officially have a duck enclosure installed on The Pond Digger Ranch.
The Raccoon Enclosures
Our current project is the raccoon enclosures. We still have to finish the roofing and add some protection around the sides, so that people visiting the ranch can not see them. We strive to keep our wild critters as wild as possible, so they have as little human contact as we can give them. Eight foot fencing will soon surround these amazing rehabilitation enclosures
There will also be reinforcements to secure the cages to the concrete platforms below. Since we live on the edge of a canyon we tend to get a lot of predators patrolling the ranch. The goal is to use the proceeds that we collected from our annual art event, Art in the Arena, in 2022, to finish the enclosures. They should be complete by early 2023, and ready for spring orphans.
